It is an AK-100 derivative of the AK-74M that chambers for 7.62x39mm M43 ammunition similar to an AKM, similar to its AKM counterpart. Like AKMs and similar weapons from other manufacturers, the AK-103 can be fitted with various sights (night vision and telescopic for instance), knife bayonet or even grenade launchers like those found on modern military rifles such as the GP-34 grenades launcheders are also an option on some versions. Newer variants also feature integrated knife bayonet or even knife bayonet systems as found on newer weapons such as its new variant counterpart:
Versions can fit Picatinny rails to allow more accessories to be mounted. They typically employ plastic components instead of wood or metal ones - including pistol grip, handguards, folding stock and depending on its type, a magazine.
